I started using this nice little program today and I must say, it's very impressive. It's like Opencanvas with several of Photoshop's features. It's lightweight, smooth and responsive. The interface is a tad cluttered, and it's not as customizable as Photoshop, but it works well enough. It also features canvas rotation and multiple custom views of the same image (no aliasing jaggies on rotation, unlike OC). PSD file format is supported, so you can work in tandem with Photoshop.
The best thing about it is how smooth the brushes are. You can make some really nice blending effects, too. I imagine drawing and inking are just as pleasant.
SAI isn't available for Mac OS X, unfortunately, so I've been running it via VMWare Fusion in its own window. Yay for virtual machine software!
Best of all, you can try it for 31 days free, and if you like it, it's a mere $50.
Give it a spin!
